Who makes a better Herc - Lou or Kevin Sorbo? Who would win
the deathmatch? Send in YOUR comment!
"LOU has more muscle in his bicep than Kevin has in his whole body.
I can see the showdown now. LOU and Kevin approach the center of the ring.
LOU flashes that wickedly killer smile. Kevin nervously sweats. The bell
sounds and they're ready to fight. All watch in amazement as Kevin does
several acrobatic jumps in the air to show his skill. LOU in all his massive
glory looks down on Kevin's puny frame, flexes his right pec and knocks
Kevin square in the face. He falls to the mat. LOU raises his bulging biceps
in victory to the wild cheers of the crowd. LOU is the ONLY hercules, period."
"Kevin Sorbo has a fabulous body. Lou looks like a may day parade
ballon! POP! Where did he go, he was full hot air! Kevin Sorbo is a great
actor! Lou can hardly talk his way out of a paper bag! GRUNTING is not
acting! Kevin Sorbo has compassion for people! Lou doesn't even know what
that is? Lou needs to go back to being the Incredible Hulk! Less talking,
more grunting! I think he can handle that better! Kevin Sorbo WINS AGAIN!!"
"Lou would put Kevins head between his forearm and bicep and squeeze
until cracking sounds came from Kevins head. He might just bend Kevin backwards
until his back broke."
"Kevin is a god of his own Hercules era. Lou, you have the body
of a mountain, but Kevin has the body of a fighter and a survivor. Lou,
Kevin would smash your body to bits and grind you into dust, then use you
as a fertilizer."
"Honestly people, have any of you seen Lou, he would kick his butt
to the moon. He is working out all of the time and is looking as big as
ever, but if you look at Sorbo, he's been getting smaller and smaller as
the years go by. In my opinion Sorbo's fighting style is like Xena's, you
can tell they're attatched to strings. Lou made Hercules come to life straight
from the myth, because all of the storys of Hercules describe a large bearded
man and he didn't need to do any martial arts to fight, he would just crush
them. As for Sorbo I find it hard to believe that someone with the strength
of a God would be able to hold up a mountain but would also get dizzy from
being hit by a mortal being with no similar background. I think that Lou
would have a better chance at winning a Deathmatch since it would only
take him one punch to cave Sorbo's head in."
"Kevin Sorbo wins hands down! Lou is awkward and unsure on his
feet. Kevin is magic! He moves with the grace and certainty of a big cat
stalking his prey! He has the brains too! Brawn isn't everthing. Anyone
who needs to distort their bodies to that degree is unsure of his masculinity.
Kevin, however, knows who he is and is comfortable with himself. He has
a tight muscular body and his training and wits would outdo Lou without
effort! Kevin Sorbo is not a beach bum in a loin cloth! He is a gifted,
talented, versatile, charismatic, gracious, caring, handsome, muscular,
funny, wonderful individual. Those who feel otherwise are welcome to their
opinions and their choice of remaining in total ignorance. Insulting comments
like calling Kev puny are not classy. Lou is dfferent than Kevin. That
is all. I happen to be of the more popular opinion that the acting ability
of Kevin far exceeds that of Lou for this role. KEVIN SORBO RULES! HE WINS
HANDS DOWN! And that will last forever!" Destinia
"Lou doesn't need to act to be the best Herc; he's got the muscle
and heart and spirit of Hercules, built in! Sorbo is just a beach bum in
a loincloth reciting lines on a badly written show, using slang and modern
day English set in ancient times. If you suspend your disbelief, add sex
appeal and mass marketing, then Kevin fits the bill: a fun tv spoof of
the original. But LOU is the best Hercules, more true to the classic Steve
Reeves role. It takes more than talent to be a hero!" sstar54
"Personally, I think Kevin is a more approachable Hercules. He
is not so muscled up that he can't move and his physique is more abtainable
for the average person. Kevin presents Hercules as a guy who you could
easily sit down and drink with without the fear of being overwhelmed by
his size. Kevin also has more on the ball for the martial arts and his
size will not slow him down. I will give Lou credit though, if Hercules
was to be a giant muscle man with nothing else then Lou has Kevin beat.
My idea of Hercules is more of a all round hero. One that can fight, swoon
the ladies, joke, and fit into normal clothes (ha ha ha). This is Kevin
Sorbo to a tee."
"Kevin doesn't have the body to be Hercules. He only has the luck
of a better marketing."
"Lou's complete lack of talent keeps him one step down from Kevin's
limited skills. Lou's only saving grace was a lack of shame, enabling him
to wear those nappy shorts. But in the end, they both would succumb to
the TRUE Hercules of all time, Mr. T."
"Not only is Lou Ferrigno the greatest Hercules, but one of the
most incredible bodybuilders ever seen. When I watched the film, I could
not believe his size or definition - at last here was someone who looked
like the character he was portraying. His 23 inch biceps and 60 inch chest
were simply mind blowing. Kevin Sorbo - go back to the gym for a few more
years, Lou would eat you for breakfast." dm
"Kevin IS Herk! Herk IS Kevin! Of ALL the Herks, Kevin is Supreme!
He has the body, the looks, the personality (the "heart") of
a Hero. He also has wit, brains, humor, and great 'sidekicks' (the kind
a hero like Herk/Kevin would and do have). Although Lou is good and likeable,
Hercules was pretty much just muscle until Kevin. Now Hercules/"K"erkules
is Loveable and in a few words "He's ALL That!""
"For what its worth, it seems to me that Lou fits the bill perfectly
as he fits the general view that is probably held about what most people
want and more importantly expect from Hercules - this is borne out by the
recent Disney cartoon which certainly did not portray him in the Kevin
Sorbo mould and also by people's expectations of someone described as a
Hercules - ie: someone who looks as if he can carry out the feats of strength
that Hercules does - I would suggest that most people can relate to Lou
Ferrigno as when they see his huge biceps, massive chest, incredible physique
etc etc, they can imagine him performing incredible feats. Kevin Sorbo
just seems to be a pretty boy with very little character - unfortunately,
it seems as if this is more acceptable to TV makers, presumably because
he is facially attractive and this counts for more than realism in the
role." Peter
"Kevin Sorbo is more sexy, and has the warm and charm of a greek
god. Lou should stick to being the Hulk - he's not sexy, but green is definely
his color."
"Lou Smashes Kevin's face with just one finger, Lou is the BEST
HERCULES EVER BEEN, Kevin is just... a wimp."
"Kevin Sorbo makes a better Herc, he is much nicer and not so beefcake!"
"Lou IS Hercules. Kevin Sorbo couldn't beat Lou Ferrigno on Lou's
worst day!"
"Lou might have the Brawn, but Kevin is so much more juicy and
easier on the eyes!! I'd rather have Kevin as herc. He is a wonderful actor, and
plays the role much better. Sorry Lou, Kevins the MAN!!!!!!!!"
"The current Hercules by Kevin Sorby? is rubbish! a joke! The show
doesn't deserve to use the name Hercules! They should stick to the original
myths. e.g Hercules is bearded so is Zeus."
"They both suck!! Lou is is too freaky and musclebound, and Kevin
is at the other end: a skinny person. The real Hercules portrayed by the
romans wasn't as big or as skinny. If you ask me, Reg Park had the best
look for Hercules!"
"Lou Ferrigno is and always will be the best Hercules - his massive
physique is incredible. The part where he wraps his huge biceps around
a tree and rips it out of the ground is just amazing. I've never seen anything
like it. Kevin Sorbo is dreadful as the great man - apart from his puny
physique, he hardly comes across as the strongest man in the world. About
time he was dropped!" dm
"Lou kicks the shit out of everyone. That little shit Kevin is
like a third grader against the The Incredible Hulk."
"All of you that say Kevin is better because of intelligence obviously
don't know your mythology. In Greek mythology Hercules was very muscular
and stupid. Lou kicks Kevin's ass!!!"
"Lou Ferrigno would kick his butt. Just throw him around like you
did to the bad guys in the INCREDIBLE HULK."
"LOU FERRIGNO KICKS KEVIN'S WIMPY LITTLE ASS, I MEAN TAKE A LOOK
AT THE SIZE DIFFERENCE.. THERE'S NO COMPARISON."
"Lou's ferrocious size is absolutely no match for the small Sorbo."
"I think Lou Ferrigno is the best Hercules, because I like Lou
Ferrigno - he is a good actor to play the Incredible Hulk."
"There is no way Kevin's 18" stick arms could even be a match
for Lou's massive 58" chest or his equally massive 23" arms.
Definetly Lou!"
"Kevin! Kevin! Kevin! Not only does he have that gorgeous (not
too large, not to small) body, but he brings a kinder and gentler attitude
to the character. He has a real sense of compassion and justice for his
fellow man. This Hercules is the original "Super"-man. Sorbo
really brings out the heroic half man to his Hercules. He is not just using
brute strength. Sorbo's Herc uses inteligence and sometimes humor to win
his battles. Gotta love him." Tracee
"There will never be another Hercules like Lou, who seems to me
to be the perfect embodiment of the legendary Hercules. I'd like to see
Lou do a guest appearance on Kevin Sorbo's Hercules show so we can compare
their herculean physiques. I'll bet even at his advanced age Lou would
put Kevin to shame."
"Kevin beats Lou by far. Lou might have more muscles, but Kevin
has the acting expertise & a brain. Sorry to the Lou fans, but he comes
across as very slow in the head. Kevin IS Hercules!" Birdly
"Lou - your body is incredible - you muscles are enormous and very
very strong - you are the perfect person to play Hercules - eat dirt Sorbo!"
"No offense to Kevin Sorbo, despite the fact that he is obviously
quicker and more agile than Lou, just one punch or a finishing grappling
move from Lou would definitely crush Mr. Sorbo. Lou wins via Knockout."
"Lou Ferrigno I think is underrated in terms of his athleticism,
people think that because of his size he lacks agility and speed. They
did not realize that other than bodybuilding Lou was a former football
player and world's strongest man competitor and placed high in the ABC
Superstars competition proving that he is an all around athlete. I go for
Lou."

Grunt & groan! (mp3)
Who makes a better Herc - you or Kevin Sorbo (of TV's Hercules:
The Legendary Journeys)? - I think that goes without saying (Ferrigno
flashes a menacing smile). Kevin has a different look, but I think I make
a better Hercules. (Lou Ferrigno in "TV Guide" July 20-26,
1996)
How do you feel your Hercules measures up to past Hercs of screen
and television? - Physically, they're different Herculeses. Arnold
and Lou are the bodybuilders, and their Hercs are far more serious and
almost one-level in a way. I think this Hercules is far more human. He
is more accessible to people, and that's one of the reasons why the show
is successful. (Kevin Sorbo, BBS Transcripts)

"Here is a question for everyone. What would you believe first?
a) Lou Ferringo takes out a gang of a hundred men.
b) Sorbo talks his way out of a fight with a ten foot giant.
I think it's safe to say Lou Ferringo is Hercules. No question about
it. Oh, and I believe Lou has brain too. Ferringo has beaten a ton of odds.
He's a bodybuilder with the best body. He's an actor. He's a famous actor.
(Before the show Andromeda, I didn't even know who Kevin Sorbo is!) He
has to have some brains to get where he is today."
"Who the hell is Sorbo?... oh. Thats right. The twig that looks
like Mr Burns off the Simpsons. What's the world come to?. YOU DA REAL
MCKOY LOU. YOU DA HULK-A-FIED HUMAN-OID!!"
"Lou Ferrigno and all the other bodybuilder actors such as Steve
Reeves, Reg Park, etc. were the perfect embodiments for the legendary Greek
hero Hercules. Hercules was very strong and was able to perform incredible
feats of strength such as uprooting large trees, using fisticuffs against
villains, hurling or pushing heavy objects at or on villains, and fighting
ferocious animals. These actors can be pictured by audiences as being able
to do these acts because they possess the physique for it, not only just
their superhuman strength bestowed by Zeus. With Kevin Sorbo's Hercules
it was understandable why people doubted his identity or didn't take it
seriously at first because he simply didn't have the physique for Hercules.
In his major fights in the show he was worn down rather easily and even
though he won the fights eventually the villains kicked his butt 95% of
the time. He was also rather nervous to fight a villain at first and he
was forced to use his fists when his primary solution of talking didn't
work. Hercules is supposed to be gentle, but also aggressive, commanding,
and an invincible fighter even when stripped of his superhuman strength.
Kevin's approach of talking instead of fighting was the cause of his show's
demise. He simply didn't demonstrate a commanding presence. Lou and the
other bodybuilder Hercs demonstrated that presence in their films as well
as give moral messages. They are the true Herculeses." 11.10.2000
"Kevin Sorbo was too laidback in his portrayal of Hercules. For
that matter he didn't take himself seriously in the role. He should have
been more aggressive and used fist fights instead of always using talking
to solve problems. If Sorbo had used that approach when he started then
his show would have still been running and be the most heavily favored
show in syndication! Think Sorbo Think! LOU portrays rage and aggressiveness
perfectly. He didn't do it only on Hercules and The Incredible Hulk, but
he also displayed his anger when he went down in the contest of bodybuilders
and for his hearing impairment when growing up. The Hulk was a great outlet
for LOU's rage for his troubled childhood. Kevin, through your facial expressions
you can express rage, but you can't express it physically! LOU can express
anger at you and kick your butt off camera! LOU is HERCULES! Kevin, you
are no Hercules... you are just a whiny wimp!" 03.10.2000
"Lou would knock the living daylights out of Kevin! He would simply
avoid Kevin's talking instead of fighting plan and kick his ass! LOU is
the real Hercules. Kevin is just...an imposter!" 28.09.2000
"Draw. They're both great in different ways. Lou Ferrigno played
Hercules as a gentle giant - much like the Hulk - he only fought when he
had to. He didn't necessarily want to knock your punk ass down and drag
you out by your feet, but he would if he had to. Kevin Sorbo, on the other
hand, is more of an everyday guy. His Hercules is more like the kind of
guy you'd meet on the street and would eat pizza with. He's friendly and
funny and he will kick your ass if he has to. Everyone says Kevin would
out manovour Lou, but Lou did play football, so don't put him out yet.
Kevin is fast, I'll give him that, and often portrayed as being smarter.
But Lou may be more accurate because, like the legends, he was a big hulking
man with a low IQ who smashed every evil doers ass with no plan what so
ever and he always won. So Kevin (who I thought looked more like Samson,
the bible's version of Hercules) could either out smart Lou, or Lou would
pound him into dirt. To each his own,! and god speed to both men."
Bill Taylor 09.09.2000
"Kevin has brains and movement to Lou's huge muscles.... you would
think the match would not last more than a minute. However, the world has
seen its many "upsets" in sports... remember Jets vs. Colts,
Iron Mike vs. Buster Douglas, USA Hockey vs. The Russians?... Well, in
what would be an upset of extreme proportions, Kevin would wear the muscle-god
down using quick action and elements of surprise. In the end, it's SORBO
who stands a top the mighty Lou, flexing his muscles over Lou, and verbally
taunting the fallen man of muscle! The headlines the next day...."Shock
Waves, Sorbo defeats the heavily favored Ferrigno"!!!" 10.08.2000
"Okay people, here is the point! Hercules was admired by the Greeks
not for his strength, but for his morale sincerity. The Greeks loved Odyseus,
roughly translated means manipulator, because he used guile and cunning
to win his victories. So how could Hercules, whose name is synmonous with
strength compare. Easy, he was the only Greek hereo who was sorry for his
mistakes. As a boy he killed his music teacher with one strike to the head
with his flute: he didn't mean it and was sorry. He killed his wife and
children when he was crazy: he was sorry and performed his famous "Twelve
Labors" as his pennenace. You see its not a question of Lou over Kevin.
Lou plays the massive Herc but has no mistakes be sorry for. Kevin plays
the streamlined Herc who doesn't make mistakes. To their credit, both are
believable because they both demonstrate that Hercules was not only strong
but gentle. So until they get a Hercules who demonstrates grief over mistakes
and a desire t o rectify them, both men have done a great job and both
have their unique qualities that put them in the echelon of all time "hercs"
alongside Steve Reeves. We'll miss you"
"LOU would grind pretty boy Sorbo's face in the gravel. Not only
is Sorbo a twig, but he doesn't even fight like a man. It's always that
crappy fighting that someone else writes for him. It's not realistic at
all. Lou fights like a real man and could actually do that stuff in real
life, not just behind camera. LOU rocks!"
"For all you ignorant people who keep saying that Lou is less agile
than Kevin, may I point out the fact that Lou played professional football
for a short time for the Toronto Argonauts and also won the Celebrity Superstars
strength and agility competition."
"Lou Ferrrigno looks like the usual portrayal of Hercules. In all
the sculptures of Hercules he has a beard and a physique to kill for. He
was also very quick and agile on the movie. He would swat Kevin Sorbo like
a fly."
"Well, considering all the massivly muscled, brainless monsters
Kevin has had to fight in the series, I don't think a massivly muscled
brainless dude is gonna pose much of a challenge. Big biceps ain't everything
you know; this is a dumb brute pitched against an inventive agile and strong
fighter. OK, Lou could probably beat Kevin into a bloody pulp, but Kevin
is too quick and smart to let that happen; No guys, for it's Kevin, hands
down."
"I think Lou makes a better Hercules because Hercules means strength
and power which is what Sorbo lacks."
"Kevin would win, hands down, if only for one reason: he uses more
of his brains than Lou. Besides, I think we all can rationally agree that
Kevin is much cuter - less of a caveman."
"There wouldn't be a doubt in my mind that Lou (Herc) would be
what's his name. I mean take a look at Lou and then take a look at Kevin
- it really doesn't take a first grader to see it. Lou you're the man.
Make another movie soon." Tim in Hiawatha, IA.
"Kevin as Herc always showed a lot of brains as well as muscle.
I think he'd outwit Lou in addition to using his muscle, therefore he would
beat him. "
"Deathmatch! Let's all read this word again. And look very close
at the photos of Kevin vs. the true Hercules - Big Lou. This fight can't
last two seconds. I don't care if Sorbo could use some special kick aganst
Ferrigno. All Lou would do is grab his head and smash his body right through
the ground and Sorbo would be nothing but dust! I know some people wanted
the fight to last, but the true Hercules would not let the fake think he
was Hercules. Sorbo doesn't look like Hercules should. In fact, Sorbo couldn't
even make it as Tarzan!"
"Dont get misled by a mountain of muscle towering over a skinnier,
lighter Hercules. The truth of matter is that Kevin would shock the world
by defeating Ferrigno. Kevin would use brains over brawn and wear the mighty
Ferrigno down. Once Kevin brings Lou to his knees, he'll work the big guy
over to render Ferrigno's huge muscularity useless. Yes fans, a sad site,
but Lou would be left wondering how the skinny Sorbo was able to defeat
him...and the rest of the world will wonder the same!"
"Lou and Kevin both make good Hercules. In my opinion though, Lou
portrays the original character more accurately, ie: most muscular. Lou
would win in a battle no doubt." Lars
"Oh, Kevin SORBO, hands *down*! This is certainly not to malign
Lou, because I grew up watching "The Incredible Hulk", and enjoyed
it very much. However - without name-calling - Sorbo's Hercules is more
believable as a half-man, half-god character. HerK gets his strength from
his father, Zeus, and not from just having the biggest muscles. Sorbo's
Hercules has the added advantage of possessing a mental arsenal, not just
muscles, so he can use his intelligence to solve a problem or defeat an
enemy. His physical prowess also includes speed & agility, which the
super-pumped Ferrigno unfortunately lacks. So, in the Kevin/Lou contest,
I see Kevin being able to outmanoevre Lou at every opportunity, because
of his superior agility; he then defeats Ferrigno through a combination
of strength and tactical skill. Kevin Sorbo - the Hercules of the '90s!!"
Mairi
"I'd been a fan of 'Herc' flix since childhood - couldn't wait
to see Lou's film. What a stinker! Even some of the 'Sons of Hercules'
flix with starring non-muscular men were better... the ONLY thing going
for Lou's films were his physique - from that standpoint, he was the most
convincing. Hercules is SUPPOSED to be big and muscular - hear that Kevin
Sorbo?"
"Brains and brawn over just steriods.... of course Sorbo would
win...."
"This is all a fuss about nothing. Lou and Kevin are both fabulous
in their own way. Lou's producers badly let him down. The production values
of those films were totally crap. I still like them though, because of
Lou's engaging personality. For that matter, that's what I like about Kevin
- his (also) engaging personality. I enjoy Lou's films also for his great
physique - there is no doubt that he is the body- building champ per excellence!
In my view, even greater than Arnold. Kevin's T.V. series has a better
story line. Why all this endless bitching? If you don't like the work of
either of these guys, turn off the T.V. and bake some cookies or help your
wife with her knitting, or help the local parson's wife with the sewing
circle. REAL MEN don't bitch about other REAL MEN. At least, they shouldn't.
I get off on both Lou & Kevin and I'm happy to enjoy the work and phycical
fitness of each of them. As it happens, I think a lot of this cattiness
is related to inability to understand the atrraction of these two very
different men. Lou, the greatest bodybuilder ever, is 'god-like', he is
not a mere mortal, he is someone we look up to. Kevin's body, although
impressive, is something we men imagine ourselves as being able to achieve.
That gives him his own appeal. END OF MY ARGUMENT!"
"I think both of them are hot in my opinion. I think they should
be on the show together."
"I really think Lou Ferrigno is better because Hercules is supposed
to have muscles AND be attractive. Lou is WAY MORE attractive and has BIGGER
muscles than Kenin Sorbo."
"Hercules in the TV series is different from the Hercules of myth
and legend who killed his children in a blind rage and was eventually poisoned
by his wife in a failed attempt to keep him faithful. In portraying the
hulking brute-for-brains template of the commercialised and typecast strongman.
*Grunt* *flex* *growl* If that's all the depth you need then sign on Ferringo
and his method acting. If it's depth, character vitalisation and identification
you're after, Kevin Sorbo stands head and shoulders above Ferringo as the
demi-god of choice."
"Best pecs in the universe!!! Eat your heart out Sorbo!"
"What a question! I never watched Hercules before Kevin Sorbo.
Just one look at him was enough to catch my eye and after watching an episode,
I was hooked. I love Kevin's sense of humor and his dry wit... not to mention
the fact that he's drop-dead gorgeous. I've never noticed Lou Ferrigno.
Muscles aren't what makes Hercules the strongest man in the world. It's
the power from his father. Besides, I think Kevin Sorbo looks just fine.
He's charming, handsome, sexy and can really kick butt. Oh, that there
were men like 'Hercules' in the real world." Jessi
"THIS IS TOO EASY!! LOU FERRIGNO IS THE GREATEST HERCULES AND AN
EVEN BETTER INCREDIBLE HULK. KEVIN DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE. WHEN THEY ANNOUNCED
THE SHOW, I WAS GOING TO WATCH IT UNTIL I SAW SOME GUY (KEVIN) LOOKING
LIKE A 12TH CENTURY EUROPEAN THIEF. LOU FERRIGNO IS THE BEST."
"Hercules is best embodied by Kevin David Sorbo. He has talent
and charisma beyond compare. He has brought a whole new audience to the
character. I guarentee you more women are watching this guy! He is also
a better role model for kids. His Hercules proves true heroes use their
head and heart too and not just brute force. Also, who says the character
of Herc has to be played by a Mr. America. In mythology Herc's strength
is because he is a demigod, not cause his muscles are bigger than anyone
elses." Alish
"Ok, so maybe they were pretty lame, but Lou kicks ass all over
Sorbo! (and Schwarzeneggar too) He never got the credit he deserved probably
because of his speech/hearing problem. He's still the greatest Bodybuilder
ever - and I want to be just like him! Lou ROCKS!!" Heath
"Lou are more muscle. Only the muscle. He's not Kevin who appreciate
more because Kev, in his role of Hercules, is more human, more sensitive
that the other. I believe that Kevin Sorbo is...the only Hercules."
Sylvie
"People like Lou create beauty in this world, people like Kevin
maintain all the ugliness." Remco
"Kevin Sorbo IS Hercules! He's a Hercules for the people. A kinder,
gentler Hercules who cares how the gods treat humankind. You don't need
to look strong to be strong. You don't always need to 'bully' the fight
to 'win' the fight. Kevin plays Hercules much better than anyone else I've
seen."
"Lou's pecs are larger than Kevin's buttocks!"
"Lou needs to stop trying to be something that he will NEVER BE!
And go back to being that Green Grunting Hulk! Kevin Sorbo Is the only
Hercules!!"
"Lou has too much power, plus he is a tall man - 6'5, which makes
an almost unbeatable combination. Some say he would be too slow, but he
is pure muscle."
"Kevin Sorbo could not look more wrong in a role than in the role
of Hercules. Lou portrays the character much better, and his body is almost
unbelievable."
